Before pursuing her legal career, Marla completed her undergraduate degree in English and worked for several years as a writer, proofreader, and technical editor. Her background in writing equips her with exceptional drafting skills, which are crucial for creating precise agreements and court orders that safeguard her clients' rights and future interests—an often overlooked but critical aspect of legal practice.
A lifelong resident of Austin, Marla is deeply familiar with the local legal landscape, including other family law attorneys and judges. She has worked in both state agencies and private law firms, gaining a wide range of experience in the legal field. Additionally, she clerked for the Honorable H. Christopher Mott.
Outside of her practice, Marla enjoys spending time with her son, Stevie Ray; her long-haired dachshund, Judge; and her tuxedo cat, The Professor. In her free time, she can often be found reading, attending comedy shows, and finding creative ways to avoid the gym.
