Marla is a family law attorney who prides herself on her ability to empathize with her clients and make herself available to hear her clients’ questions and concerns.  Unlike many other family law attorneys, Marla has personally gone through a divorce and a lengthy custody battle of her own, and these experiences have led her to choose a specialization in family law. Marla has dedicated her career to learning how to get the best results for people experiencing family life changes, so that she can effectively and efficiently guide them through this major step in their lives. 

Marla attended The University of Texas School of Law and upon completion of her degree received the highest score on the Texas Bar Exam. Before attending law school, Marla received her undergraduate degree in English and worked for years as a writer, proofreader, and technical editor. Writing and drafting skills are not something that most clients think to ask about when interviewing lawyers, but they are absolutely essential to getting an agreement or court order that contains all of the provisions that you want and that will protect you in the future.  NO TYPOS, PLEASE! 

For her entire life, Marla has lived and worked in the Austin area. She is familiar with the local laws and culture, as well as many of the other family lawyers and judges in the area.  She has worked at multiple state agencies, as well as at multiple private law firms, and has clerked for the Honorable H. Christopher Mott.

When Marla is not working, you can find her spending time with her son (Stevie Ray), her long-haired dachshund (Judge), and her tuxedo cat (The Professor). Marla enjoys reading, comedy shows, and coming up with excuses for why she can’t go to the gym.
